Game of Croquet

While in Vermont, Mimzy pulled out the croquet set. The boys had a great time batting the balls around, even though they didn't really play an actual game.

Pinwheels and Puddles

What is more fun than pinwheels, puddles and bikes? Not much. Of course, there was only one puddle in the entire street and Will found it, but he was so happy in it that we couldn't say no. This was a weekend in Vermont. 

Our Daily Commute - NYC

Andy captured these photos of us walking home from school the other day. This is something we do every day here in NYC and although it has become routine to us, it still can be magical. Watching Alex navigate the sidewalks on his bike is amazing--he is such a gifted little biker. And, of course, my day is always made better by the smile on Will's face after a long day at work. 

 

 

I love these moments with my boys and am so grateful we have these photos to remember our commute.

Old City Hall Station

Andy and I went on a tour of the Old City Hall subway station. The station was opened on October 27, 1904 and was designed to be the jewel in NYC’s new subway system. The station is elegant with its beautiful arches, Guastavino tiles, chandeliers and unique skylights. Skylights were added to make people feel as if they were not underground, to get passengers used to this new mode of transportation. 

Given the station’s sharp curve, which made turning trains difficult through this area, and the proximity to other trains in the area, the station closed on December 31, 1945. It remains open to a select few visitors every year and you have to obtain clearance to see it. Such a beautiful reminder of a bygone time.
