Camping at Sylvan Lake

The view from our tent.

As I mentioned in a previous post, Andy recently left his old job and started at a new company—he had been with his former company for 13 years. With such a big leap for Andy, I wanted to celebrate him and the possibilities his new position holds, so I proposed going camping. For those of you who know me, I am not really a camper, so this trip was definitely all about Andy.

We wanted something that was within two hours of the city, so I found a campsite that still had openings: Sylvan Lake.

When we got there, we choose a site by the lake and set up camp. While Andy was putting the finishing touches on our camp site (assembling our grill, finishing the tent), Alex and I went swimming in the lake, which was really nice.

After our swim, we headed back up to our campsite and started making dinner—Andy was building the fire. For dinner, we grilled hot dogs, and cooked baked beans and noodles. A really simple meal, but it went perfectly with the outdoor setting.

Alex and I going to collect water for dishes.

After dinner, we had s’mores by the fire. Alex and I went to bed while Andy stayed out by the fire for a bit. I read Alex a few camping books I had brought in the tent and then he and I snuggled up in the same sleeping bag.

As the sun rose, so did Andy, while Alex and I slept in a bit more. Andy took some photos of our campsite during the early morning hours.

Waking up.
Then, we packed up our campsite and went to a diner for breakfast. Andy loved sharing something he loves with his family and, honestly, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. It ended up being a really lovely outing. Although, I still prefer a bed to a tent.
